Dr. Monica Chana
Dr. Monica Chana was born and raised in Valdosta, graduating from Lowndes High School. She graduated from Valdosta State University in 2007. She attended The Dental College of Georgia (then the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University) and graduated in 2014. Fun fact: Dr. Fields and Dr. Monica were in the same dental school class!
Following graduation, Dr. Monica completed additional training in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Ben Massell Dental Clinic and Grady Hospital’s Infectious Disease Program in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Monica then returned to The Dental College of Georgia to serve as an Assistant Professor, teaching in community oral health, oral medicine, geriatric dentistry and all levels of undergraduate clinical training. While a faculty member, she ran a student clinic at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, which gave dental students the opportunity to provide dental care to veterans starting in their first year of dental school. In 2020, Dr. Monica relocated to Greenville, SC and worked in public health and in late 2021, she moved back to Georgia and began a 4 year adventure of filling in for doctors on maternity leave in South Carolina and Georgia. Eventually, that adventure led her to Southland and she found her home office in her hometown.
She is a member of the Georgia Dental Association and a Fellow of the Academy of Oral Medicine. She participated in the 2015 and 2018 Georgia Mission of Mercy dental clinics and is an annual volunteer at the Georgia Special Olympics.
When she is not in the office, Dr. Monica enjoys reading, yoga, and spending time with her nephew and niece.
